Holiday #Foolanthropy Supports “Growing Power”

The spirit of giving is alive at the Fool! Each year, an internal committee selects one organization to benefit from Foolanthropy’s holiday efforts. This season, we’re excited to partner with Growing Power, a non-profit organization in Wisconsin working to provide sustainable, affordable, and healthy food, along with jobs and training, to at-risk communities.

After a career as a professional basketball player and corporate executive, Will Allen started Growing Power in 1993 in Milwaukee, linking up local teens to his farm endeavor located a half mile away from the city’s largest housing project. He hired the teens to work in his store and renovate greenhouses to grow food for their community, which was a food desert – and Growing Power has flourished ever since. Today, the organization manages incubated farms in urban and rural settings, along with greenhouses and community gardens in Wisconsin and Illinois.

Three fundraising goal thresholds have been set: a $60,000 basic goal, $80,000 stretch goal, and the $100,000 super stretch goal. We hope you’ll consider DONATING HERE, but be sure to check Fool.com in the weeks ahead for more on Growing Power, or read Will Allen’s book, The Good Food Revolution: Growing Healthy Food, People, and Communities.

With your generosity, together we can grow a better tomorrow!
